Olivier Butty, Switzerland  2001

I caught up with Olivier via our Facebook alumni site.  He is now the proud owner of Odgies Kaffé a bar in Geneva. It was great to hear that he still sees some of the friends he made in Sydney. 

"When i went to UEC i was 18 years old, so young a boy, I spent almost 7 months there, I met so many people from all over the world. It's probably my best experience I have had in my life. After classes we had a lot of activities with students and also teachers, that was great cause we could improve our english easily, after 2 months i could speak english much more fluently. I still see some of UEC students, we try to meet each other once a year and it is still like in Sydney. So thanks a lot UEC and hope to see the staff in the future."

Ex UEC student Allen (Hung-yu Chiang) 1997-1998

Allen dropped in to visit us last week.  He studied at UEC  for 4 months in 1997 then continued his one year course at Universal School of Commerce before going to Macquarie University. He now works as a duty manager at Taiwan Air Cargo Terminal in Taiwan. 

" I still have great memories of studying at UEC. My favourite memory is when Steven, my GE teacher took us to an Italian restaurant in Leichhardt."
Even after 10 years, he still keeps in touch with many friends from UEC. In fact today he is flying from Sydney to Hong Kong where he will catch up with a friend from UEC who now has a baby!

Academic English Student Congratulations to Nancy on her fantastic university results.

Nancy (Li Jun) studied at UEC from 1/2/2010 to 26/3/2010 in Academic English 4.  She successfully completed her studies with us and then went on to study at the University of Wollongong Sydney Campus - Sydney Business School - for a Masters in International Business.  She came back on Tuesday to tell us her great news that she had graduated.
 
Nancy said that "UEC helped me a lot! They helped me to improve my English, especially my writing."  She also loved that fact that she made 2 great friends at the school who she still keeps in touch with.
 
She found University difficult at first as she had never studied business before so it was difficult for her to learn the terminology but she found the second term more relaxed as she understood the work, lectures and requirements much more.
 
She came back to visit the school and enjoyed telling her UEC Academic English teacher, Darryl Nickless her news and her fantastic academic progress.
 
Now she plans to find a part-time job before heading back to China later in the year.

In Ki Kang

I met with In-Ki recently  when he dropped by to say hi to his old teachers while he in Sydney. In-Ki studied Academic English at UEC in 2002 and then completed 3 courses with our pathway partners Macquarie University before settling in Adelaide.

Inki is in Sydney to give a talk at the Korean Community Centre about being successful in Australia. He now owns a grocery store in Murray Bridge in South Australia where he has been living for the past 18 months. His store offers Asian cooking classes to the local community and has become a very popular place. 

He wanted to thank his teachers “My Academic English course at GV really helped me be successful at university and I made friends for life among my classmates” The school became like my family and I am very grateful for that. It’s a special place”
