General English Course

If you wish to improve your social and practical communication in different cultural and social situations, then our General English course is for you.

General English courses consist of core language studies in the morning and options classes in the afternoon. It is taught in units of 4 weeks. The wide range of teaching materials exposes you to ‘real life' English. Our monthly excursions enable you to communicate socially with other students and see some of Sydney's key attractions.

General English Language courses are offered both full-time and part-time.

English Levels

You are tested on your first day and placed at the English level that is right for you. We offer 7 levels of General English classes as follows:

Lower Elementary
Elementary
Upper Elementary
Lower Intermediate
Intermediate
Upper Intermediate
Advanced

How Do I Progress to the Next Level?

You are assessed throughout your English course. The standard of your class work and homework, and your results on end-of-term tests, determine your class level for the next term of study. We expect that it will take 8-12 weeks to progress from one level to the next.

Key Facts

Entry Requirements: Students must be able to read and write the English alphabet, and they must be able to have a basic conversation, such as introducing themselves and saying where they are from.

Course Length: 1-52 weeks
Hours Per Week: 22.5hours/week - 4 hours optional Guided Independent Learning available on all full-time courses.
